Sugar Rush (Scene)

In the scene of Sugar Rush, Kim is regretting the night she spent with Sugar. Kim in the first 10 seconds of the scene; seems to be discarding and throwing away stuffs or memories of Sugar, her emotions were conveyed by her actions, she was very brisk. There was a voice over of her mind talking throughout the clip, the sound was a non-diegetic sound, the way she talk is really fast, that mean that she is angry while trying to forget about Sugar. Editing in the scene helps portray her expression, the clip was fast moving, and it follows her movements to emphasize actions e.g.; tearing a picture. Camera angle within the scene is mostly extremes close up or a normal close up because is shows her facial expression and to portray how is she feeling.

Then it came to a part of the scene and Kim picked up a can of soft drink, the sound of the music change, to a slow music to emphasize a crucial memory point of her forgetting Sugar. This shows that she doesn’t want to forget this memory, it is somewhat important and it is the thing that is keeping her from forgetting Sugar, the lipstick mark shown on the tip of the can makes her want to kiss Sugar once again and then it leads into a flashback of them kissing each other, it portrays that, that can is the key to opening her memory of Sugar. Another thing is the can of drink, contains Sugar, which might lead to a foreseeing that she will find Sugar everywhere, she can’t forget Sugar.

Then Kim has attended the heterosexual circle at the church, which is showing that Kim is serious about this relationship between her and Sugar. As the talk goes on the camera angles are usually close ups and a medium long shots to show groups of people that is in the same situation as Kim, the circle talker addresses the problem with a serious tone which help give a better atmosphere within the church.

The last scene of the clip is when Kim is at the school locker area, and she sees Sugar coming, the camera angle used is kind of a Blocking/Slit framing and point of view to show that Kim is trapped in her own mind,  the vision of Sugar coming towards her is threatening her to panic, which also shows within the facial expression of Kim that she is panicking and the non diegetic voiceover is showing that she is panicking and scared as she is talking quickly and mumbling, also breathing very fast. This is showing that she doesn’t want to encounter with Sugar.
